I’ve been blogging since 2004 and along the way I have learned some great ways to streamline my blog.  I’d like to share a few of them with you today.

1. Select a great Hosting company

There are many hosting companies to choose from but the one that I have always been with for over 10 years is HostGator. Through the years I have had a few blog glitches and every time I have contacted HostGator they have helped me work through the problem, even once when my entire blog disappeared due to a glitch.

HostGator Tech Support

Their online support chat is professional and the wait has never been long.  I have also used their phone support and also experienced great customer service.  I just know that if I have a problem with my blog they are there to help me.

2. Update Plugins & WordPress Regularly

There are a variety of plugins that help your blog operate on the backend as well as those that provide social media sharing functions.  Often there are updates to these plugins as well as with WordPress.  It is important that these items are updated when the newest version is released or they can cause issues with your blog.

Update Plugins and WordPress

I am a busy just like everyone else, I work a full-time job outside the home and I have two school-aged daughters that take up a lot of my time.  Having to remember to update my Plugins and WordPress slips my mind a lot.

That is why I am interested in the new HostGator Optimized WordPress.  If you use the new HostGator Optimized Press platform they will handle all of the core, theme, and plugin updates without the need to login to complete the updates.  Sounds like a great solution for this busy blogger.

3. SEO Your Images

It is very important to fill out a full description of your blog post images, this will help to ensure that your images and blog post is found on the internet, Pinning and when writing your blog post.  Often times I used my pictures a second or third time.  If I didn’t title my images correctly they won’t appear in my blog Library when I search for them.

Not only do you need to fill out the Title, Alt Text and Description of your image, but be sure that the name of the image is descriptive as well.

In addition to those details, you should also take it a step further and add the photo information the WordPress SEO by Yoast.  Make sure to fill out the Focus Keyword and Meta Description for the image.

4. Update Old Posts

Have you visited your older blog posts and read them? I mean REALLY read them? I’ve done this before and ended up editing the article due to out of information.  It is important to do an audit of your older blog posts and images from time to time.

Not only will this keep your blog post up-to-date but it will allow you to update any SEO keywords that you may have overlooked the first time. Another reason why I like to update old blog posts is so that I can share them with a whole new audience.
