Epcot World Showcase at Walt Disney World is a melting pot of international culture and visiting it will give you the chance to walk around the World. When you walk into each of the international pavilions you feel like you’ve stepped into a special part of each country.
I like to start my walk around the world at Mexico, head to Norway, China and slowly make my way all the way around to Canada.
If you prefer not to walk you can also take a Friendship Boat from one side of the World Showcase Lagoon to the other. There are two boats, one travels between the Canada side and Morocco and the other from the Mexico side to Germany.
I enjoy all of the World Showcase pavilions and one my favorite store to visit is the Mitsukoshi Department Store located in the Japan Pavilion.
The Mitsubishi store was established in 1673 selling Kimonos door-to-door, ten years later they opened their first store where people could shop for Kimonos in one place.
The Mitsukoshi Department store is headquartered in Toyko, Japan with locations in Taiwan, China, Korea and Europe. The only North America location is at Epcot World Showcase in the Japan Pavilion.
The Mitsukoshi Department store is one of my favorite places to shop because of the large variety of non-Disney items. I understand that sounds like a strange statement coming from this Disney Nerd but I think the Mitsukoshi Department store offers Disney guests a unique experience.
The Kimono room full of beautiful colorful Kimono’s that you can try on and of course buy.
A large variety of kids items can also be found here from Nintendo, Hello Kitty and Sailor Moon.
The store has a variety of departments such as Pick a Perl, Origami, gifts, food, dishware, jewelry, apparel, accessories, and toys.
If you are looking for a unique gift item to take home then I highly recommend making a stop at the Mitsukoshi Department store. I still have a yellow coin purse that I bought here in 1992, it is one of my favorite treasures.
Have you shopped here before? What’s the favorite item you brought back home?
