Welcome to those of you joining me from Capturing Magical Memories and those of you just hopping aboard. I am the 3rd stop on our Magical Blogorail.
Mary Poppins is one of my favorite Disney movies and my girls love to watch it with me and sing along. Imagine getting the chance to sit in a Broadway production of Mary Poppins, that would be awesome.
After six magical years on Broadway Mary Poppins curtain closed on March 3, 2013 and it was the 22nd longest running show on Broadway with 2619 performances.
The 1964 movie started Julie Andrews as the famous nanny and Dick Van Dyke as Bert the chimney sweep.
The movie was a huge success and went on to win 5 Academy Awards in 1965 including:
- Best Actress
- Best Film Editing
- Best Effects
- Best Song “Chim Chim Cher-ee”
- Best Score
With all of those awards it is no doubt that a Broadway musical would be a hit. Mary Poppins made it’s debut West End in December 2004 and finally hit the Broadway stage and opened on November 16, 2006.
Even though the show has closed on Broadway you can still see it on a national tour. In fact it just came to my town this past Summer. You can check out Ticketmaster or your local community theater for upcoming show dates.
Thank you for joining me today. Your next stop on the Magical Blogorail Loop is Disney with Babies, Toddlers, and Preschoolers.
