Los Angeles Disney and ABC TV Blogging Trip Recap from March 2014

In March 2014 I was honored to be able to attend one of Disney’s famous Blogging Trips. While on the trip I represented the website 5 Minutes for Mom. I am writing this blog post because I have a really bad memory and this post will help me to remember all of the fun I had and the wonderful places I visited.

Blogger Movie Event March 9

There were a variety of activities that we did and they were jam packed into five days of fun. I had heard about these awesome blogger trips before and always wanted to experience one. This trip was like no other because now ABC TV was wanting to host us as well making the trip even more memorable.  Never in my lifetime would I have ever thought that I would visit all of these legendary Disney places in the span of just a few days.

On our trip there was pretty much no down time as any time spent in our room was either getting ready for an event, eating, sleeping or working. This is not a vacation people – it’s work!

Everything we were doing was planned out according to the blog posts we would be later sharing. The events didn’t happen in the order that the blog posts were due; which I thought made the experience fun. We had 20 (you read that right) blog posts that needed to be completed once we got back home. Each post was due on a specific day, between a specific time frame.

I am a very organized person, thankfully this systematic approach to completing the blog posts worked well for me and I like to be on a schedule.

Homework

Just like any other journalist, the work actually starts before the trip begins. Since there are many shows, movies, actors, directors and producers that you will be interviewing it is important to do your homework about them. I LOVED my homework because I like doing research, taking notes and being organized.

I utilized my ARC Staples Notebook to keep all of my research handy. Each show, movie or event had its own section in the notebook. In it I printed out the relevant information I thought I would need during the trip. While I didn’t bring my large notebook to every event, I found it VERY helpful upon my return when crafting my blog posts.

Using Twitter lists was a must for me because I have a terrible memory. For each show or movie I created a Twitter list. Each list contained anyone associated with the project. This was helpful for me when we were in an interview as I could just go to the list, find the Twitter handle I needed and send off a tweet. Twitter lists are great, I create them for just about everything. If you want to see any of my Twitter lists just go to my Twitter profile at @DawnCullo and click on lists. You can even subscribe to the lists as well. I still use the lists today to follow my new blogging buddies as well as the actors and actresses we meet on the ABC TV portion of the trip.

My Advice

I had the most amazing time and meet some great new blogger friends. The movie MUPPETS MOST WANTED will always remind me of my time in LA and the wonderful new bloggers that I meet. One blogger is even from my home town and she’s super awesome. It was nice to have a buddy on the flight home.

Now that I have one blogging trip under my belt I am ready for the next one. There are few things that I would do differently next time such as wear comfortable shoes. Fingers crossed I will get an invite to a future blogging event.

If you find yourself on one of these trips just remember to be yourself, try to get sleep and have fun.

Here are some photos that I took but never used in my blog posts. Enjoy! Click on the image to enlarge.

Comments

  1. Sounds like a fabulous event! I like your notebook & will have to look into those ARC Notebooks at Staples. I have a couple conferences this summer – Disney OTR in Phoenix & Type-A Conference at Disneyland. I could definitely benefit from your organizational set-up!
