Magical Blogorail Orange Logo

Welcome to those of you joining me from Adventure in the Great Wide Somewhere and those of you just hopping aboard. I am the 4th stop on our Magical Blogorail.

When most people think of taking a Disney Cruise they immediately think of destinations such as the Caribbean, Mexico, Europe and Alaska.  But did you know that you can also take a cruise along the California Coast? Disney Cruise Lines does indeed sail along the California Coast and visits many exciting ports of call such as San Francisco.

Cruises that visit the California Coast range from 2 – 5 day cruises departing from either San Diego, California or Vancouver Canada. You can view more information about these cruises on the Disney Cruise Line website.

While on a Disney Cruise you can select from many exciting adventures in each port of call.  One of ports of call on a California Coast cruise is the breathtaking city of San Francisco.

I used to live in San Francisco for many years and there was never a shortage of things to do or see, it is a beautiful city.

Located in the Presidio area of San Francisco is the Walt Disney Family Museum and a visit to the Museum is a must for any Disney fan.  The Museum is dedicated to the life of Walt Disney and contains many galleries filled with artifacts, movies, drawings, music and Disneyland History.

One of the Disney Cruise Line excursions on the California Coast is a visit of the Walt Disney Family Museum.  This tour can be done by itself for 3 hours or paired with a tour of San Francisco.  When paired with a tour of San Francisco the museum visit will last for only 2 hours.  While any Disney fan would be happy to visit the Museum it may not be exciting for children under 10 years old.

After the visit to The Museum you will either return to the ship or continue with a short tour of San Francisco if you have chosen that option.

The tour bus will take you on a quick trip to the top of Twin Peaks which is at 922 feet elevation. The views of San Francisco are amazing and there are a lot of birds in the area as well.  This may sound like a strange statement but take a look at these photos I took one time when I was up at Twin Peaks.

The tour continues with a drive into Golden Gate Park and past the historic de Young Fine Arts Museum and Gardens with a stop near Cliff House. Lastly, the tour will travel along the coast towards the Golden Gate Bridge and take a quick 30-minute photo opportunity stop.

I hope you get a chance to board a Disney Cruise and make a stop in San Francisco or at the very least a trip to San Francisco one day.

  1. Now this is a cruise excursion I would DEFINITELY go for! I’d love to visit that museum. We could spend hours just in the One Man’s Dream exhibit at Hollywood Studios! How often have you been there?

  2. I had no idea DCL had cruises off the coast of California! This excursion sounds like my kind of excursion! I would love to visit the museum someday. And your photos are beautiful!

  6. Lisa Cameron says:

It has been a dream of mine to visit San Francisco. I did not know that DCL stopped there. This info may make my dream come true sooner than I think. This sounds like a really fun excursion. What amazing views!

  7. Lin @ DisneyMamas says:

I would absolutely love to be able to take an excursion to the Walt Disney Family Museum while on a Disney Cruise. Do you think 2 or 3 hours is long enough to experience the museum?

  8. Maureen TwoMomsandaMouse says:

I did not know that Disney had this Cruise available .. and if I went on it I would definitely be checking out the Family Museum! Great info!

My parents went to the Walt Disney Family Museum last year and said it was the greatest experience they ever had at a museum. They also said that the view of the Golden Gate Bridge is unparalleled. Do you know if it’s expensive to visit?

  10. We actually drove past the museum while getting lost in San Francisco one month prior to it’s opening. We have always wanted to go back!
