The Start of a Mommy Blog
When I started blogging in 2004 it was really hard for me to find a catchy name for my blog. 10 years ago the “mommy blog” craze was really just getting started but there were already a lot of catchy titles taken up.
I over thought it too much, ended up banging my head against the wall and gave up on a clever name. At the time I just used my own name and launched “Dawn’s Blog” at DawnCullo.com. It wasn’t a very exciting name BUT I was a very tired new mom so this was really all the creativity I had to give at the time. I used that URL for many years until I decided to rebrand my site.
The rebranding of my site took place because I have a passion for all things Disney and especially the Disneyland Resort. After a while my blog was less about my little girls and more about how to save money for a Disney Vacation or tips on visiting Disneyland Resort. In order for me to get noticed in the “Disney blogger” world I needed to rebrand my blog.
I wanted someone who saw my URL to know exactly what my website was about. I ran into the same problem I had years before trying to come up with a catchy name. Either everything I wanted was already taken or sounded similar. I just could not come up with a good name but then a family member said to me “you are such a Disney Nerd” and that is when it clicked. I said to myself “yes, I am a Disney nerd,” and that is how my next URL was created. Thankfully no one owned the name already so I was good to go.
I hired a graphic designer from Hey Hey Designs and she quickly made this logo for me to use.
I looked for the perfect Word Press theme the had whimsy and color that would represent my brand and found the one I am currently using by Pretty Darn Cute Design called Adorable.
Next I headed on over to Vista Print to order my business cards. I love working with them because you can upload your own logo and creating a custom design is really easy.
Rebranding, Take 2
After a few years of blogging about all things Disney I found that I wanted to expand my horizons and start to do more sponsored blog content. This is content that you get paid for – meaning I would do a product review or opinion about something and get paid to blog about it.
However, these opportunities seem to only come to those bloggers with high analytics and a blog with a variety of topics so I decided to rebrand my blog….again. I went back to my designer and she tweaked my logo and I made new business cards. This is the blog site that I have today.
As you can see being a blogger for a long time means that you may end up rebranding your site. Luckily, the name I wanted in my URL was available when I made change. However, if it was not available then I would have turned to Domain.Me for my URL needs.
No longer do you need to use a “.com” as your URL, there are other options. When you are ready to launch a new site with the URL Domain.ME is fresh, innovative, and clever.
Some “Famous” Domain.ME Sites are
– Ti.me (Time)
– V.Me (Visa)
With a .ME URL you can express yourself with your new URL. Another great use of the .ME URL is as a URL shortener, I am sure you have seen this before “fb.me” as the Facebook URL shortener.
The next time you need a URL turn to .ME and create the ultimate brand.
